Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery is happy to present George Hadjimichalis’ new exhibition, 5 Works. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 6 May and will be on view till the 7th of June 2025. It is the artist’s first exhibition since the large retrospective that took place at the Benaki Museum (Pireos 138), George Hadjimichalis: Works from 1966 to 2022, that was on view for five months until January of 2024. This time at the gallery space, George Hadjimichalis presents these five works for the first time.
«In 2021, I began creating a unit of works entitled Situation, based on a very old idea that had followed me for years. I painted a central piece and carried on painting and taking photographs. I realised, however, that this project was far too ambitious and, ultimately, entirely unrealistic. I understood, then, that my procrastination over all those years to make a start was due to the fact that the idea at its root and its source was impossible. And I decided to change the structure of the work entirely – to do something entirely different, the opposite of what I’d been thinking all these years.
Three works, the ones that played a key role, are the three large works I exhibit here. Despite no longer being part of another work – they have, by now, claimed their autonomy – I feel that there is a covert relationship between them, concealed and secret, which is not obvious.»
