Eleftheria Tseliou gallery is happy to present Giannis Michailidis solo show ‘Scrap’. The show opens on Tuesday, November 12 and will be on display until the 14th of December 2013.
In continuation of his previous group of works entitled “The Sound of Rust”, showcased in the Nees Morfes gallery and as Katerina Koskina commented in the catalogue of that show, Giannis Michailidis « plays himself the role of a scientist-wizard in a strange laboratory producing natural phenomena that in combination with painting create art ». His new series of works, entitled ‘Scrap’ is a response to the perplexity of the Art History query regarding still life. Focusing on the oxidized surface of an old machine of a derelict factory, Giannis Michailidis transforms masterfully the painting surface into the proper image of rust, thus fulfilling the fundamental principle of the essence of the visual art. Giannis Michailidi’s painting gets inspired by the simplicity and magnificence of nature, by a simple detail, the passing of time and creates an art work of high aesthetic value.
